LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track & field teams began a busy weekend on Thursday with three separate meets in Southern California. The day began in Long Beach, Calif. at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate followed by a brief stint in Azusa, Calif. for the Bryan Clay Invitational, and ending in Norwalk, Calif. for the Mt. SAC Relays.
Kaylie Van Loo was the first Pilot in action at the Pacific Coast in the javelin throw. Her first throw of 154' 6" led the field through five rounds before Hawaii's Felicianna Vazquez threw 163" to take the lead; Van Loo finished the day in 2
nd.
In the triple jump, Courtney Vacek placed fourth with her mark of 37' 4".
Christina Francisco and Dani Castillo both set PRs in the 400m hurdles despite windy conditions. Francisco finished in 7
th with a time of 1:04.56 and Castillo finished the lap in 1:05.31 to finish in 9
th.
Courtney Cox was the sole runner at the first day of the Bryan Clay Invitational. She finished her 5,000m heat in 3
rd with a time of 17:39.61.
At the Mt. SAC Relays, six Portland harriers took to the track in the 10,000m. Gabriel Haughey was the top Pilot finisher with a time of 29:45.38. Rounding out the rest of the Portland finishers are Danny Martinez (30:02.22), Chris Enriquez (30:08.67), Keegan Symmes (30:21.37), Reuben Kiprono (30:21.13), and Ben Forsee (3:22.30).
The Pilots will be back in action tomorrow at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. for a full day of track & field events.
