EUGENE, Ore. --- Lauren LaRocco reached the podium again at the 2016 NCAA National Championships on Saturday night at Hayward Field finishing 6
th in the 5,000m.
Coming into the race, LaRocco had the 21
st fastest qualifying time of 16:21.09. She improved on her Regional time by 15 seconds, completing the 12 and-a-half lap race at Nationals in 16:06.47.
The Sacramento, Calif. native remained with the lead pack throughout the race using her keen race sense to position herself for a final kick at the bell lap.
This performance came just 48 hours after her 4
th place finish in the 10,000m. LaRocco was one of just 3 student-athletes who placed on the podium in both the 5,000m and the 10,000m.
This concludes one of the most successful National Championships for the Portland Pilots on both the men's and the women's sides.
Members of both programs will be competing at the Portland Track Festival on Sunday at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Ore.
