PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland baseball team landed another recruit as third baseman Ryan Hoogerwerf (Allen, Texas/Allen HS/Cisco College) is transferring to The Bluff and will join the program as a junior next year. Hoogerwerf, who began his collegiate career at Louisiana Tech, hit .344 as a sophomore last spring at Cisco College.
Â
"Ryan is a solid defensive third baseman with corner guy offensive power," said Portland head coach Geoff Loomis. "He will be a middle of the order hitter for us in 2017."
Â
Hoogerwerf also belted eight home runs in 2016, to go along with 14 doubles, a triple, 40 RBI's and 46 runs scored. He helped lead the Wranglers to a 48-16 overall record and a regional championship. Cisco was also ranked fifth in the country and advanced to the 2016 Junior College World Series.
Â
At Allen High School, Hoogerwerf was twice named First Team All-District, while garnering second-team accolades in 2013. He helped the Eagles reach the third round of the state playoffs in 2013 and 2014, after winning the district title in 2012. Hoogerwerf was tabbed as a 2014 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American, while also landing on PG's Texas All-Region First Team. In 2013 Perfect Game selected Hoogerwerf to the Underclassmen All-American Third Team.
Â
Hoogerwerf also claimed two state titles as a quarterback on the Allen HS football team.
