PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots baseball was one of 440 college program to earn the 2024-25 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack. The Pilots have earned the award each season since head coach Geoff Loomis took over in 2016.
The award recognizes high school and college teams that posted a GPA of 3.00 or better for the 2024-25 academic year. All nominated teams must be a high school or college team where their head coach is a current member of ABCA.
Pilot Baseball was stellar in the classroom this year. The program posted their highest GPA ever as a program. Five players – Carter Gaston, Tyler Howard, Henry Muench, Jonas Salk and Zach Toglia – earned WCC All-Academic First Team honors this season, also matching a program record. They were the first WCC team to have five players make the team since 2014. Salk, Howard, Gaston and Ryan Rembisz also all earned CSC Academic All-District honors.
The Pilots went 22-30 overall this season and also 13-11 in WCC play, qualifying for the WCC Tournament for the fourth straight season. They've posted five straight seasons of 20 wins or more for the first time since 2012 and have done so in seven of the last eight seasons.
