PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Baseball announced on Tuesday their schedule for the 2026 spring season. The 2026 slate features matchups against numerous Power 4 squads, the return of the game at Hillsboro Stadium and matchups against five teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
The Pilots open the season with a neutral-site series against the Purdue Boilermakers in Sugar Land, Texas between Feb. 13-15. The Pilots will play four games against the Boilermakers, who went 31-23 last season and 11-19 in the Big Ten. Portland follows that with a one-off game against the CSUN Matadors in Northridge, playing the Big West squad on Feb. 18. CSUN, who went 15-34 and 10-20 in their conference, hosted the Pilots last season, losing 14-6.
Portland will stay in California that weekend for a three-game series against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos from Feb. 20-22. The Gauchos put together a stellar overall record, going 36-18 with a 16-14 record in the Big West. They hosted a regional in the NCAA Tournament in 2024 and last played the Pilots in 2018, with Portland losing 1-0.
Joe Etzel Field sees its first action the weekend of Feb. 27 through March 1 when the Pilots host the Niagara Purple Eagles. Niagara went 19-28 last season, but the year prior went 38-17 and 20-4 in the MAAC to help them qualify for the NCAA Tournament. The Pilots and Purple Eagles played a four-game series in 2023, with Portland taking three of four games.
The 11-game homestand continues after that with the Pilots hosting the Holy Cross Crusaders for a four-game series March 6-8. The Crusaders went 31-27 and 17-8 in the Patriot League last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament by winning the Patriot League Championship on a walk-off double. Portland then welcomes the UConn Huskies for the first time ever the following weekend, a team that dominated the Big East with a 38-21 overall record and 17-4 conference record. They fell, however, in the Big East Tournament championship to the Creighton Bluejays.
The Bluff Boys welcomes the Oregon State Beavers back to Joe Etzel Field on Tuesday, March 17 in the first of three games between the two teams. Oregon State is a powerhouse of college baseball, going 48-16-1 overall last season. They advanced to the 2025 Men's College World Series in Omaha, ultimately falling to the Louisville Cardinals. Oregon State took both games against the Pilots last season.
Conference play begins soon after, with the Pilots facing the LMU Lions down in Los Angeles from March 20-22 to open West Coast Conference play. The Lions went an even 29-29 last season and 14-10 in WCC play. Portland took two of three contests against the Lions last year, but fell in the WCC Tournament in their opening game.
Purple will fill Joe Etzel Field once again when the Northwestern Wildcats take on the Pilots on March 24. Northwestern went 25-27 and 13-17 in Big Ten play last season, and last played the Pilots in 2017, taking two of three games. Portland resumes WCC play with last year's WCC Tournament champs, the Saint Mary's Gaels, who will be in town from March 27-29. The Gaels went 36-26 overall and 15-9 in the WCC, with the Pilots taking two of three games against the Moraga-based squad. Both of Portland's wins came in 11-inning marathon contests. Saint Mary's made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 and just the second time ever.
The Pilots head to Eugene soon after on March 31 to take on the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks went 42-16 overall and 22-8 in their first year in the Big Ten, hosting a regional but losing both contests. Portland beat the Ducks in both matchups last year, marking the first time they've beaten the Ducks in all contests since 2018.
Portland will be welcomed by a new conference foe that weekend, taking on the Seattle U Redhawks for a three-game series from April 2-4. Portland's lone contest against the Redhawks – a team that went 20-32 last season and 8-16 in the WAC – was a notable one, with pitcher Ryan Rembisz throwing the first perfect game in Pilot history. Portland hosts the Ducks again soon after that on Wednesday, April 8.
For the final time as conference opponents, the Pilots will take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs in a three-game series up in Spokane from April 10-12. Gonzaga went 26-27 overall and 16-8 in WCC play, earning a 2-seed in the WCC Tournament but falling in two games. They took of three on Portland last season. The Pilots will stay in the area to take on the Washington State Cougars in Pullman on Monday, April 13. The Cougars went 18-36 and 11-19 in their first year in the Mountain West. The Pilots beat the Cougs 3-2 in their last contest in 2024.
Portland hosts the San Francisco Dons April 17-19 the next weekend. The Dons went 26-30 overall and 9-15 in the WCC, taking two of three against the Pilots down in San Francisco last year. The Pilots play a neutral site game soon after on April 21 against the Washington Huskies, who went 29-28 overall and 17-13 in Big Ten play. They beat the Pilots in both contests last year.
The Santa Clara Broncos are up next for Portland, playing a series from April 24-26 down in Santa Clara. The Broncos were 20-30 last year and 7-17 in WCC play, with Portland taking two of three on the Broncos. The Pilots won't host a midweek the following week, instead preparing for the San Diego Toreros at home from April 30 to May 2. The Toreros went just 28-30 overall last year but 19-5 in WCC play to take home the WCC regular season title. They swept the Pilots in San Diego last year.
Portland takes on the Beavers in Hillsboro once again, with the game slated for May 5. The Pilots then travel to Malibu to take on the Pepperdine Waves. Pepperdine went 12-42 last year and 7-17 in WCC play, with Portland taking two of three from the Waves on The Bluff last year.
The Pilots close the regular season with a game against the Beavers in Corvallis on May 12 before closing with a home series against the Pacific Tigers from May 14-16. Pacific finished 20-36 last year and 8-16 in WCC play. Portland swept the Tigers last year for the fifth year in a row, with their 15-game winning streak being the longest against a WCC team in program history.
The Pilots went 22-30 overall this season and also 13-11 in WCC play, qualifying for the WCC Tournament for the fourth straight season. They've posted five straight seasons of 20 wins or more for the first time since 2012 and have done so in seven of the last eight seasons.
