PORTLAND, Ore. --- Carly Becker, a 6-0 goalkeeper out of Olympia, Wash., has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Portland Pilots women's soccer team as a freshman in the fall, announced head coach Garrett Smith. Becker joins the 2017 incoming class, which already includes Olivia Dendinger, Taryn Ries, Kendra Steele, Ellie Walker, Ellie Winkelmann, and Madison Zamora.
Â
"Carly brings a passion for the game and wants to improve," said Smith. "She is just starting to open her eyes to the possibilities of her own personal growth in the game. At 6-feet tall, she automatically brings the size and strength necessary for the position at the Division I level."
Â
Becker spent three years playing for the Olympia High School Bears, after taking her junior year off. A team captain, she earned First Team All-SPSL, while also nabbing most inspirational honors. The Bears reached the Washington 4A State Playoffs all three years, finishing third during Becker's freshman year and eighth her sophomore year.
Â
Becker played with the Washington ODP travel team, and she played club with Washington Premier FC in the ECNL. Previously she was a team captain with Blackhills FC.
Â
"Carly is hard-working, and she was under the recruiting radar up until this year when she joined her current club Washington Premier competing in the ECNL," added Smith. "She has a high ceiling for growth with a ton of untapped potential. She also has a big personality and confidence, so the sky is the limit for her. We are very excited to watch her development in our program during the next four years."
