AUSTIN, Tx. --- Sophomore Noah Schutte will join senior Grace McConnochie at the NCAA Outdoor championships on June 7-10, after qualifying with a second place finish in his heat in the 3000m steeplechase earlier this evening at the Mike A Myers Stadium. McConnochie qualified in the 10,000m last night with her ninth place overall finish.
Â
"Super smart and tough racing by Noah," said head coach Rob Conner. "He ran a perfect tactical race coming from behind. He really finished fast too, so that is good for the prelims at the NCAA championships in two weeks. He will need to run a prelim in Eugene. It was a :03 personal best under tough, hot and windy conditions."
Â
Schutte, who ranked 28
th coming into the meet, makes his mark in the UP record books at eighth all-time with a personal record of 8:52.22 to finish ninth overall.
Â
Tomorrow will be the final day of competition for the West Preliminaries. Taryn Rawlings and Jeff Thies will race first for the Pilots in the semi-finals of the 1500m beginning at 6:30 p.m. (CT). Following the 1500m, will be the 5000m races for both the men and the women, beginning at 8:05 p.m. (CT).
