MCMINNVILLE, Ore. & LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams closed out the Linfield Open and Oxy Invitational, this evening at Maxwell Field and Jack Kemp Stadium in southern California.
The majority of Pilots competed at the Linfield Open, where freshman Maya Murphy-Cook set a personal record in the 100m hurdles to move up to sixth all-time in the UP record books. Sophomore Sky Chen-Johnson also set personal bests in both the 100m (13.24) and 200m (27.21).
"Our sprinters had another excellent meet, led by Maya Murphy-Cook, who did great in the 100,200, and 100 hurdles," said women's head coach Ian Solof.
Only two Portland men also competed at Linfield, while a smaller group ran in the 5000m at the Oxy Invitational. Sophomores Malcolm Roux and Sean Tan set personal records in the 1500m in 3:58.21 and 4:07.27, respectively. Down in California, redshirt freshman Caleb Webb ran an impressive 5000m smashing his previous record to mark a new time of 14:00.15 and earning a second place finish. Senior Alex Dillard finished just behind Webb crossing the line in 14:01.10.
"Awesome job by the Pilots tonight," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "I'm really proud of all of them. It's not easy to run a meet of this quality on finals week. Each of the guys ran either a pr or seasons best. Impressive! Caleb and Dillard should make regionals and Brady and Hauger will be on the bubble. This is a big weekend for Danny with graduation, so I was happy he could put down a pr in front of his parents. "
The Pilots will host the Portland Twilight next weekend at Lewis and Clark College to conclude their regular season competition.
