STANFORD, Calif. – Portland juniors Emily Soares and Anna Oberg have advanced to the Round of 16 in the doubles draw after day two of the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, hosted by Stanford at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

Portland's tandem raced to an 8-3 win Laura Malsert and Mathilda Vidgren of San Jose State on Saturday morning. With two wins under their belt, the pair moves on and will face Graciela Rosas and Domonique Garley of Gonzaga on Sunday at 10 a.m.

In Saturday main draw singles action, Pilot junior Jelena Lukic dropped a tough three-setter to ninth-seeded Janice Shin of Stanford by a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 margin. It is the lone set that Shin has lost in four matches this tournament. Stanford's Emma Higuchi also knocked out sophomore Lourdes Ramalle in straight sets in the Round of 32.

The Pilots posted consolation singles wins by sophomore Laura Okazaki, freshman Angela Schuster and Soares on Saturday. Okazaki and Ramalle also teamed up for a doubles consolation victory.

ITA's Northwest Region schools are comprised of the following: California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle, Stanford and UC Davis.
