SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The #19 Portland Pilot's women's cross country team finished fifth as a team in a competitive field at the 2018 NCAA West Regional at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on Friday morning. Redshirt seniors Lauren LaRocco (19:38.3) and Taryn Rawlings (19:48.2) led the Pilots to their exceptional finish with an eighth and 10
th place finish, respectively. Redshirt junior Aoibhe Richardson (20:10.9) was the third runner to cross the line for Portland in 19
th place. All three Pilots earned All-West Region honors.

"Our team ran great once again and showed a lot of toughness," said head coach Ian Solof. "Our top three were amazing and each made All-Region. Becca and Courtney really impressed me with huge improvements from last year."

Seniors Becca Howard (20:55.8) and Courtney Cox rounded out the top-five scorers for the Pilots with a 46
th and 66
th place finish.

The Portland women also placed fifth at the NCAA West Region in 2016. Their fifth place finish at that meet earned the team their first ever at-large bid to the NCAA National meet, where they placed 22
nd. If the team is awarded an at-large bid by the NCAA committee, this will be the second time in Pilot history that the women will compete at the national meet. The NCAA XC Nationals' selection show will air tomorrow, Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. (PT). Â

The top two teams at the NCAA West Region meet earn automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. The top-25 individuals at the meet make up the All-West Region team.
