PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland women's basketball program added another recruit as Elena Alaix, a 6-3 forward from Madrid, Spain, has committed to the program and will join the Pilots as a freshman, announced head coach Cheryl Sorenson.
Â
"Elena is a versatile player at 6-foot-3," said Sorenson. "Her perimeter skills will help stretch the floor offensively. We love her high level of play and her international experience, and we're excited to welcome Elena to Portland."
Alaix plays for Rivas, which is considered one of the most competitive clubs in Spain, and she averaged 15 points and eight rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from beyond the three-point arc. With Rivas, Alaix won the gold medal at the Madrid Junior Championships in 2015 and 2016. Rivas took silver in 2017 and bronze in 2018.
Â
Alaix was named the MVP at the 2017 Copa Colegial Championships, while also landing on the Ideal Quintet. She was also the MVP of the Valenica Tournament in 2018.
Â
Twice Alaix has trained with the national team, and she competed with the Madrid Regional Team, taking the silver at the 2014 Tres Cantos Tournament. She also competed at the Spain Championships in 2014 and 2015, and at the National Tournament in 2014.
