PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Women's Basketball announced on Wednesday the nonconference schedule for the 2025-26 season. The schedule features three teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season, four that earned a berth in postseason play and the first basketball tournament hosted by Portland Pilots Women's Basketball in almost 30 years.
The Pilots open the season against the Willamette Bearcats on Nov. 4 before hosting the Montana State Bobcats on Nov. 7. The Bobcats were an NCAA Tournament squad last year after winning 30 games on the year and going 17-1 in the Big Sky. They won both the Big Sky regular season title as well as the Big Sky Tournament, earning their bid. The Pilots and Bobcats last played in the 2023-24 season, with the Pilots winning at home.
Portland hosts another local team in the Warner Pacific Knights on Nov. 11 before hitting the road to take on a true test in the USC Trojans. The Trojans are one of the top teams in the country, having made the Elite Eight in the 2024 NCAA Tournament after posting a 31-4 record. They finished atop the Big Ten with a 16-1 conference record, taking the regular season crown in their first year with the conference.
Portland heads to Hawaii after that for a pair of games against the Idaho State Bengals and the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine. The Pilots play the Bengals on Nov. 21 in a neutral site game before taking on the host Rainbow Wahine on Nov. 23. The Pilots and the Wahine have played in three of the previous four seasons, with the Pilots taking all three contests, including last season's matchup. Hawaii went 22-10 last season and 16-4 to claim their second straight Big West regular season title. Idaho State went 14-17 last season and 8-10 in the Big Sky.
The following weekend, the Portland Invitational returns to The Bluff for the first time since the 1996-97 season. The Pilots will welcome the Nevada Wolfpack and the Eastern Washington Eagles to The Bluff from Nov. 28-30. The Pilots played both teams last season, earning wins against both squads. Nevada finished last season 11-21 overall and 6-12 in the Mountain West while Eastern Washington went 11-20 with a 7-11 record in the Big Sky.
An old conference foe makes their return to Portland the next weekend. The BYU Cougars come back to the Bluff on Dec. 6 to face the Pilots. They went 13-17 overall last year and 4-14 in the Big 12. The Pilots played the Cougars most recently in the 2022-23 season – BYU's last in the WCC – with Portland taking both contests. The Pilots take on Long Beach State on the road on Dec. 11 after that, a team that went 16-14 overall and 12-8 in the Big West.
The final two road contests for Portland both happen on the road. First for the Pilots are the Oregon Ducks, who went 20-12 and 10-8 in the Big Ten. They qualified for the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round. The Pilots and Ducks played each other most recently in the 2023-24 season, with Portland earning a dominant 91-60 victory for their biggest win ever over a then-Pac 12 school.
Portland's final nonconference contest comes against the Portland State Vikings on Dec. 21 at the Viking Pavilion. The Vikings were 4-24 last season and 1-17 in Big Sky. The Pilots have won the last five contests against the Vikings.
Portland put together an incredible season, finishing 31-5 overall and 17-3 in WCC play. They earned a share of the WCC regular season title and also broke a program record for wins in a season. They earned their first ever two playoff wins on the road after qualifying for the WBIT, making the quarterfinals. They also advanced to their third straight WCC Tournament championship and their fourth in six years.
