Women's volleyball broke multiple records during the 2018 season, capping it off with the first postseason berth in program history. A 12-0 record to open the season was both the best start and longest winning streak in program history. After their third straight tournament sweep to go 9-0, the Pilots earned four votes in the NCAA AVCA Coaches' Poll, the first time Portland Volleyball has ever received votes.
Reflecting on his first season as head coach, Jeff Baxter made plenty of memories. "Our 2018 season presented us with a lot of great times whether they were in the victories we had or the challenges we faced. I am so thankful for the opportunity I had to work with our 2018 team. We learned a ton about this program and where we believe it can be."
The early success, along with season sweeps over San Francisco and Santa Clara, helped earn Portland a spot in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The team reached the quarterfinals of the NIVC, after sweeping Northern Colorado and defeating Utah Valley in a classic five-set match which marked the 20
th win of the season, the highest win total in the history of the program.
