MADISON, Wis. --- The Portland Pilots' men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday, one of the nation's premier meets, which is held annually at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. In a very competitive field of lineups, the Portland women finished in 24th place overall, while the men claimed a 9th place finish in the team scores.
In the women's 6K open race, junior Grace Perkins finished first (22:21.2), followed closely by Virag Weiler (22:29.2). Coming in at third for Portland was Grace Ritchie, claiming a new personal best with her time of 22:36.0. Kate Seary (22:56.7), and Ellie Erikson (23:32.8), closed out the contest for the Pilots.
In the women's championship division, Anna Pataki crossed first for Portland in 47th place with her time of 20:45.2. Emma Jenkins (21:02.5), and Jasmine Fehr (21:17.9) were next to finish the competitive 6K, with Sofia Castiglioni not far behind at 21:58.7. Senior Maddy Lyons collected a personal record of 22:10.9, and Victoria Weir (22:13.4) and Lacey Conner (22:35.7) rounded out the scorers for Portland.
"I thought our team ran tough today and we beat some good ranked teams," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "We still have room for improvement and need to keep working hard as we get ready for conference and regionals."
In the men's 8K, Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse claimed an impressive ninth place finish in a time of 23:57.3. Caleb Webb came in second for the Pilots at 24:03.9, while Evert Silva ran a new PR of 24:05.4 to both place in the top 30. Reuben Kiprono (24:23.1) and Clement Leduc (25:01.5) were next for the Pilots, followed by teammates Riley Osen (25:13.2) and George Duggan (25:43.5).
Both the men's and women's teams are back in action tomorrow, October 19th, at the local Warner Pacific XC Classic at Lents Park.
