TERRA HAUTE, Ind. --- Portland redshirt-sophomore Anna Pataki represented the Pilots well at the NCAA Championships despite cold and wet weather conditions at Lavern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course. Pataki finished the6K race in 21:00.2, which was good for 57th place.
Pataki's first performance at the national meet tied for the 10th best finish ever at the NCAA Cross Country Championships for a Portland runner.
After the first split Pataki was running in 65th place, and jumped nine places within the following 2000m, where she would remain for the rest of the course.
In her first year as a Pilot, Pataki earned an individual at-large bid to the NCAA National meet after her ninth-place finish at the West Regional meet. She also led the team to a second-place showing at the WCC Championships earlier in the year.
"Anna ran great and was really tough in very challenging conditions," said Portland head coach Ian Solof. "For her first time at Nationals this was an impressive performance and is a great sign for the future."
