PORTLAND, Ore. – The CSUN Matadors snapped Portland's five-game winning streak with a 71-64 win over the Pilots Wednesday night at the Chiles Center. JoJo Walker led the Pilots with 15 points, while Tahirou Diabate added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The game featured ten ties and nine lead changes and was a one-possession game late after CSUN led 34-30 at the half.
The Pilots (6-2) jumped out to a 53-48 lead after a Walker three-point play and Isaiah White transition layup, but the Matadors (2-7) responded with an 11-0 run.
Terrell Gomez, who scored a game-high 28 points, scored nine of the 11 points during the CSUN surge.
Diabate made a layup and White hit two free throws to pull Portland within 61-60 with 2:14 remaining, but Gomez answered with a runner. The Pilots missed three-point attempts on the next two possessions and CSUN extend the lead seven.
Walker made a tough corner three to trim to margin to 68-64 with 38 seconds left and CSUN missed a pair of free throws, but UP missed two more three-point attempts and the Matadors escaped with their second straight victory.
Portland held CSUN to 39 percent shooting overall, but shot a season-low 33 percent from the field. The Pilots entered the game ranked second nationally in three-point percentage (.446), but finished just 5-for-25 from three-point range on the night.
Portland will hit the road to take on the Seattle U Redhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash. The Pilots will then return home for a three-game homestand beginning on Friday, Dec. 13 against Evergreen State at 7 p.m. Tickets for all upcoming home games are available at
