VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team defeated crosstown rival Portland State 6-1 on Friday afternoon at the Vancouver Tennis Center. The victory marked the fourth consecutive win for the Pilots, who improved to 5-2 overall, while the Vikings fall to 0-3 this spring.
The Pilots swept the doubles point with wins at all three positions.
The bottom of Portland's lineup then made quick work in singles play. Freshman Angela Schuster won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6, followed by sophomore Lourdes Ramalle with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5. The match clincher was provided by freshman Marija Elenova with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
The Pilots also scored straight set wins by juniors Jelena Lukic and Emily Soares at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively, while Portland State picked up a point at No. 2 singles with a win by Nini Nikitovic.
Portland returns home to open West Coast Conference play on Friday at 10 a.m. versus Santa Clara. The match will have live video and point-by-point scoring available at PortlandPilots.com.
