AZUSA/TORRANCE, Calif.--- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track teams began competition at the Bryan Clay Invite and the Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday, including new personal bests from members of both teams.
Â
In Azusa, Henry Hayes was the first Pilot to break a personal record on the day, finishing the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:03.50.Â
Â
In the men's 5000m, Peter Allegre placed third in his heat and claimed a new personal best with a time of 14:27.08, while teammate Gabriel Haughey also finished with a PR in the event with a time of 14:30.19.
Â
In Torrance, Becca Howard moved into eighth place in UP's all-time records in the women's 10,000m by setting a personal record of 34:29.96. Finishing just before her was Aoibhe Richardson, who currently holds fifth place in UP's all-time records in the event, while Virag Weiler and Stella Gillman also set new PRs with times of 35:23.24 and 36:23.94, respectively.
Â
"Aoibhe and Becca both really impressed me," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Becca was running her first 10k ever and Aoibhe has struggled with a knee injury but they were both super tough and earned NCAA qualifying times."
Â
For the men at the Mt. Sac Relays, both Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse and Michael Teran-Solano collected PRs in the men's 10,000m, with Roudolff-Levisse placing fifth overall.
The Pilots continue action in Azusa tomorrow, with Maya Murphy-Cook competing in the women's 100m hurdles beginning at 10:15am.
