PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team travels to Dexter Lake this weekend for the 2019 Covered Bridge Regatta, which will be taking place just outside of Eugene, Ore., on Saturday. The Pilots are sending five boats to the regatta, including a varsity eight, a second eight, a varsity four, a second four, and a novice four.
 
Most of Portland's crews will be racing twice as all the events feature heats, finals, petite finals, and grand finals.
 
"Back-to-back racing weekends are tough mentally and physically," Portland head coach Pasha Spencer said, "but we had a good week of training and fine tuning, so we are excited to see what we can do in a large and broad field of schools at the Covered Bridge Regatta."
 
The day begins with Portland's second eight, with that heat scheduled for 8:20 a.m. Twenty minutes later the varsity eight is set to race in their heat, and Portland's fours follow, beginning with the novices at 9 a.m. The second fours are scheduled for 9:40 a.m., and the Pilots' varsity four concludes the morning session at 10:10 a.m.
 
The afternoon schedule begins with the second eight finals at 11:50 a.m. Then comes the varsity eight petite and grand finals (12:10 p.m./12:20 p.m.), and the novice four petite and grand finals are set for 12:30 p.m. and 12:40 p.m., respectively.
 
1:10 p.m. brings the second four final, and the varsity four petite and grand finals end the day at 1:40 p.m. and 1:50 p.m.
 
Other schools competing include Chico State, Humboldt State, Lewis & Clark, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific Lutheran, Puget Sound, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, Seattle U, Washington State, and Western Washington
 
The Pilots have a history of success at the Covered Bridge regatta, capturing three Collegiate Team Efficiency Trophies. Last year's regatta was canceled due to poor weather, but in 2017 Portland's varsity eight (gold), second four 'A' (silver), and the second eight (bronze) each brought hardware.
