John Knight Twilight Results
MONMOUTH, ORE.--- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track and field teams both fared well on Friday at the John Knight Twilight, held at Western Oregon University, with both teams collecting multiple PRs throughout the day.Â
Â
Devin Wulff claimed Portland's sole first-place finish in the men's 5000m, completing the race in a time of 15:05.15.
Â
Earlier on, Junior Maya Murphy-Cook started the day for the Pilots by placing fifth in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 15.02 to beat her previous time and keep her fifth-place spot in UP's all-time records. Murphy-Cook later took a fourth place finish in the women's 200m, with teammates Tara Fuiten and Caroline Dolan reaching PRs in that same event with times of 27.47 and 28.14, respectively.Â
Â
Redshirt-Freshman Sophia Castiglioni beat her previous best in the women's 1500m, finishing with a new PR of 4:52.08. Coming in close behind her were Grace Ritchie and Grace Oswin; Oswin also noting a personal record in the race at 4:56.95.
"The women raced well tonight. It was a really good opportunity to race tactically and put themselves in a position to have a chance to win their heats, and they executed really well," said women's assistant coach Kelsey Quinn. "We also had a few personal bests tonight, including Maya in the 100 hurdles, which was great to see!"
For the men the 1500m race also had its share of personal bests for the Pilots, including Peter Allegre at 3:56.98, Ryan Clarke at 4:02.84, John T. Kavulich at 4:03.27, and Jake Knoblich at 4:06.98.
Â
"We had a lot of really great efforts tonight! Peter Allegre had a big breakthrough as did Ryan Clarke," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "It was a fun night with a lot of guys running and racing hard."
Â
Portland's track and field teams have a bye this upcoming weekend, with their next competitions in California from April 18-19 at the Bryan Clay Invite and the Mt. Sac Relays.
