PSU Viking Rust Buster Results
FAIRVIEW, Ore. --- Portland's men's and women's cross country teams had multiple successes at the PSU Viking Rust Buster, including new personal bests from several runners on both squads. The Pilots' men's team also clenched the team title at the meet.Â

Redshirt-junior Reuben Kiprono led the way for the men, claiming first place over all in the men's 6K race with his time of 18:11.9. Cole Shugart followed close behind for fifth place and a PR of 18:34.8. Thomas Salas and Henry Hayes finished next in seventh and eighth place, running the course for new personal bests of 18:52.4 and 18:54.7, respectively. Sophomores John Kavulich and Kris Braunberger also collected personal records on the day, Kavulich coming in at 19:00.1 and Braunberger at 19:09.6, along with James Parker, who collected a new best time of 19:36.6, a 38 second improvement from his previous personal record.

"The guys did a great job. I was impressed with everyone's effort," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "Reuben ran really smart and Cole was tough as normal. A very good meet for us."

For the women, it was junior Grace Perkins to cross the line first for Portland, finishing the 4K in a time of 14:13.5 on her way to a new PR. Sophomores Ellie Erikson and Ellie Misuraca were next in for the Pilots, followed by Grace Oswin and Ellee Becker, all of whom collected new personal bests as well. Freshman Lauren Block ran her way to a time of 15:02.2 in her first competition as a Pilot, while Emily Bechen and Grace Ritchie closed out a solid day for the Pilot women with new PRs of their own.

"Everyone ran hard today and I was especially happy with Grace Perkins, who looked great and really showed her improved fitness," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "It will be exciting to put her in with the rest of our varsity group in a few weeks."

Both the men's and women's teams will be off next week, in preparation for the WOU Sundowner meet in Monmouth, Ore. on Friday, September 20
th.
