Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland men's tennis completed a solid opening weekend with a 7-0 sweep against Idaho on Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots defeated Portland State by a 6-1 margin on Friday and are now 2-0 to open the spring dual season.

"Today's performance was night and day compared to yesterday," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We kept our composure through some really tricky spots today otherwise it easily could have gone the other way. I am really proud of how we handled ourselves mentally.

"Idaho is a very good team. Last week they beat the No. 58 team in the country on their home court. To beat them 7-0 was something that I feel really good about. Kostya played another very good match against an excellent player, while Tom and Sema both bounced back from fairly subpar performances yesterday. Both guys were excellent mentally in some of those tough spots."

Portland opened the scoring with a doubles sweep for the second straight day. Kostya Nesterenko and Tom Hann won by a 6-3 margin at the No. 1 position. Sophomores Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos were also 6-3 winners at No. 2, while sophomores Leo Hibi and Issa Yoshida completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.

Pankin doubled the margin with a straight sets win against Estaban Santibanez at No. 3 singles. Nesterenko also won in straight sets at the top of the lineup, holding off Francisco Bascon-Perez 7-6, 6-4.

Hann provided the clinching point with his second consecutive three-set win at No. 2 singles. Hann beat Althaf Dhaifullah 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.

Neos, Yoshida and sophomore Nicklas Oberg concluded the scoring with straight set wins in the final three positions.

The Pilots will next head to Dallas, Texas for a pair of matches next week. Portland will take on host SMU on Saturday at 1 p.m. (PST) and then play UT-San Antonio on Sunday at 7 a.m. (PST).
