STOCKTON, Calif. – University of Portland men's tennis advanced three players out of the ITA Northwest Regional Championship Singles Qualifying Draw to highlight a strong start Thursday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
 
Freshman Gian Manhas won both of his matches in straight sets, while Lucas Kimelman and Cade Fernando were straight set winners in their lone matches as the trio will join three other teammates Friday in the 64-player Singles Main Draw.

The regional events serve as qualifying tournaments for the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. The two singles finalists and the doubles champion from each of the 13 regions will qualify for the corresponding NCAA individual championship.

The competition continues Friday with the start of the 64-player singles main draw and 64-team doubles draw. The tournament features full best-of-three-set singles matches and eight-game pro set doubles.  The event continues with the championship matches scheduled for Tuesday, October. 21.

Admission is free for fans wishing to attend throughout the week and some matches will be streamed live.
