Portland women's soccer alum Christine Sinclair ('05) scored two goals for Team Canada on Wednesday and now has more international goals than any player who's ever played in the history of the sport. Sinclair tied and surpassed previous record holder Abby Wambach of the U.S. with two goals during the first 20 minutes of Canada's CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying match against Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Â
Sinclair now has 185 international goals, leaving the striker un-matched.
Â
Sinclair is one of the most decorated players in the history of soccer, and while at the University of Portland she helped the Pilots win two NCAA National Championships, in 2002 and 2005. Sinclair was a four-time All-American at UP, she won the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2004 and 2005, and she claimed the 2006 Honda-Broderick Cup, which honors the college woman athlete of the year regardless of sport. She totaled 110 goals and 32 assists in 94 games with the Pilots, and the 39 goals she scored in 2005 are still an NCAA single-season record.
Â
Sinclair debuted for Canada almost 20 years ago, and she's been named the Canadian Player of the Year 14 times, which includes a stretch of 11 straight years (2004-14). Sinclair won Olympic bronze medals in 2012 and 2016, and she's played in five FIFA Women's World Cups. She's been shortlisted for FIFA World Player of the Year seven times, and last December she was named the Canada Soccer's Player of the Decade by the Canadian Soccer Association.
Professionally, Sinclair was won titles in WPS with FC Gold Pride (2010) and the Western New York Flash (2011), and she helped guide the Portland Thorns to NWSL Championships in 2013 and 2017.

"Christine Sinclair is a winner. I'm guessing she only knows that she's about to break the goal scoring record because someone mentioned it to her, otherwise I could promise you she wouldn't have any idea. So more important than the insane amount of goals she's scored, and her collection of accolades is her HUMILITY. The world may never see another MEGASTAR who leads with her poise and humility. It was an absolute honor playing alongside her at UP, I knew THEN she would be the greatest international female player the game would see. I also know what an amazing human being she is. Her accomplishments continue to further the women's game and that's something to be proud of!"
- Lindsey Huie, University of Portland Soccer Alum (2001-05)
