PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots earned a 1-1 draw against the Santa Clara Broncos on Wednesday, opening West Coast Conference play with a point earned. The Pilots are now 3-2-4 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
Hailey Bagby scored the equalizing goal for the Pilots, her first of the year. The tie is Portland's first unbeaten result against the Broncos since 2021.
How it Happened
Santa Clara struck first, scoring an early goal off a corner in the eighth minute from Raygen Lewis. Portland didn't wait long to respond, with Hailey Bagby scoring a golazo from way outside the 18-yard box. Bagby's ball soared over the keeper's head and into the right post, bouncing back into the net to make it 1-1 at Merlo.
The Pilots continued their shot barrage in the second half, putting together nine shots total with seven of those on frame. Portland put immense pressure on the Santa Clara defense but did not find the go-ahead goal, still earning a 1-1 tie.
