PORTLAND, Ore. --- Midfielder Samy Sierra has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Portland women's soccer program as a freshman, announced head coach Michelle French. Sierra joins the seven recruits who previously committed to the program as part of the 2020 incoming class.
Â
"Samy has a very technical, unique way of being able to glide her way through the midfield on the dribble, combined with having the vision to break lines with her passes" said French. "With both her understanding of the game and her team-first mentality, there's no doubt she's a great fit and is more than ready to be a Pilot this coming fall."
Â
Sierra comes to the The Bluff from Long Beach, Calif., where she's a standout for Millikan High School and the L.A. Breakers of the ECNL. With the Millikan HS Rams, Sierra was named First Team All-Moore League, and she was voted the league's offensive player of the year after netting a conference-high 15 goals. She helped guide her team to a pair of conference titles, and the Rams reached the Division I CIF Second Round in 2018-19 for the first time in school history.
Â
With the Breakers, Sierra made the ECNL National Playoffs and was named a 'Player to Watch'.
Â
"I chose UP because of the amazing soccer culture, academics, and the welcoming coaching staff," Sierra said. "The overall positive and supportive environment made me feel right at home."
