PORTLAND, Ore. – Nikolas Tvedt has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Portland men's tennis team as an incoming freshman in the fall of 2020, head coach Aaron Gross announced. Tvedt is a native of Norway that has spent the last four years studying at the ES International School and training at the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy in Naples, Florida.
"Nikolas has been training at a high-level academy in Florida and is poised to make a huge jump in his game," Gross said. "He is a big kid that is still young and has a lot of tools that can be big weapons at the college level. He is super committed to tennis and wants to play pro tennis someday. Nikolas understands the commitment it takes to be great and is excited to be coming to Portland."
Tvedt is a four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net and ranked just outside the top 100 in the U.S. nationally. He was a finalist in junior doubles at Nationals in Norway and a semifinalist in the U19 singles category. Tvedt also was a finalist in doubles at the 2019 J4 Delroy Beach ITF tournament.
Tvedt will be joined by fellow incoming freshman Oscar Brown as the two newcomers to the Portland roster. The duo will join a Pilots team that was off to a 5-2 start to the 2020 dual season and is expected to return eight players to next year's roster.
