PORTLAND, Ore. – Chris Austin scored a team-high 20 points to lead Portland past Lewis & Clark by a 93-67 margin in an exhibition game Monday night at the Chiles Center. Mike Meadows added 19 points and freshman Vasilije Vucinic recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Pilots.
It was the first public game for new Portland head coach Shantay Legans, who came to The Bluff after serving the last four seasons as head coach at Eastern Washington.
All 13 players that were active saw court action for Portland against Lewis & Clark, a Division III college in the Northwest Conference.
Tyler Robertson filled the stat sheet with 9 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals in his first time on the court for the Pilots. Freshman Matija Svetozarevic added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
Portland led start-to-finish and raced to a 43-27 halftime lead. The Pioneers used a 10-0 run early in the second half to cut the margin to 47-37, but the Pilots answered with an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Jack Henderson led all scorers with 22 points Lewis & Clark, including 6-of-15 from three-point range.
The Pilots shot 54 percent from the field and knocked down 12-of-26 three-pointers. The Pioneers were held to 35 percent overall and 14-of-40 from three-point range.
Portland gained a 44-20 edge in points in the paint and had a 44-36 rebounding margin.
The Pilots will now prepare for the regular season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Arizona State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. (PT) and the game will be televised live on Pac-12 Network with radio coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. on 910 ESPN-Portland (KMTT).
