PORTLAND, Ore. – Lucy Cochrane had the first double-double of the season as the Portland Pilots (2-0, 0-0 WCC) took down the Weber State Wildcats (1-1, 0-0 Big Sky) 67-46.
Cochrane had 14 points and 12 boards on the night and added fourblocks. This is the second straight game that she's had at least 10 boards.
Haylee Andrews also filled up the stat sheet, putting up 14 points with five rebounds and eight assists. Emme Shearer was the leading scorer for the Pilots with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
After a low-scoring first quarter, the Pilots bounced back in a big way in the second. After trailing by seven, the Pilots went on a 10-0 run to retake the lead and then outscored Weber State 9-5 for the rest of the quarter to take a six-point lead into halftime.
The Pilots came out strong in the second half and never looked back. They outscored the Wildcats 38-23 in the final 20 minutes and battled to a 67-46 win.
The Pilots once again suffocated their opponent defensively, causing 30 turnovers and forcing 17 steals. They scored 34 points off those turnovers. They held their opponent under 50 points for the second straight game and also held them to just 31% shooting from the field and 13% shooting from beyond the arc.
Portland's ability to get out and gave them a significant advantage on the court. They had 16 fastbreak points on the evening. They also had 17 assists and 44 points in the paint.
The Pilots will have their first road game of the season when they travel to Palo Alto for their matchup against the defending national champions – The No. 3 Stanford Cardinal. The game is set for Tuesday with a 7 p.m. tip-off on the Pac-12 Network. Check PortlandPilots.com for more details.
