PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots (9-5-1, 3-1-1 WCC) dominated the No. 15 Northern Illinois Huskies (12-2-2, 4-0-2 MAC) 4-0 for their second win over a ranked opponent this season. Jacob Babalai, Wesley Frankel, Atem Kato and Buba Fofanah scored for the Pilots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilots opened up the scoring in the 16th minute. Kevin Bonilla worked a sleek through ball into Jacob Babalai. The sophomore finished the shot to make it 1-0 Portland.
- The Pilots struck again at the top of the 34th minute. Portland swung the ball from left to right, this time finding Wesley Frankel cutting into the box. Frankel made contact with his right foot and put it past Martin Sanchez for the goal.
- The third goal of the night came from Atem Kato in the 60th minute. Frankel dispossessed an NIU player and played a quick pass to Kato for the easy goal. That put the score at 3-0.
- The final goal came in the 77th minute. Alejandro Pereira worked the ball to the right side of the box and crossed it into Buba Fofanah for a the score. The Pilots won 4-0.
PILOT POINTS
- Babalai is now tied for the team lead in goals with three.
- Frankel and Fofanah each earned their second goals of the season.
- Kato's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
- SixPilots earned assists on the evening: Kevin Bonilla, Atem Kato, Jake Arteaga, Wesley Frankel, Alejandro Pereira and Buba Fofanah.
- Bonilla's assist was his third on the year, Pereira's was his second and everyone else's assist was their first.
- Alejandro Pereira is the points leader for the Pilots at eight.
- The win is the Pilots' second over a ranked team this season. Both wins came against top-15 opponents.
- The win is the second for the Pilots by at least four goals this season.
