EUGENE, Ore. – N'Faly Dante led four Oregon players in double figures with 20 points as the Ducks had their highest scoring game of the year in a 96-71 win over Portland Wednesday night at Matthew Knight Arena. Chris Austin led the Pilots (8-4) with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Kristian Sjolund followed his career-high 20 points Monday against Cal Poly with a 14-point, 7-rebound effort against the Ducks (6-5). Mike Meadows and Tyler Robertson added 14 and 10 points for Portland, respectively.
De'Vion Harmon finished with 19 points, while Quincy Guerrier and Will Richardson chipped in 17 and 16 points each.
Oregon used its size advantage to rack up a 54-14 edge in points in the paint and 18-4 margin in second chance points. The Ducks also shot 54 percent from the field and committed just eight turnovers.
The Pilots finished at 38 percent from the floor and were 11-of-26 from three-point range, but Portland was unable to string together defensive stops or corral rebounds when Oregon did miss.
The Ducks found an early offensive rhythm and capitalized on some costly Portland turnovers to race out to a 31-13 lead. Oregon took a 46-32 lead into the halftime break.
Portland came out firing in the second half as Sjolund buried a trio of three-pointers in the opening four minutes, but Oregon continued its efficient scoring and converted on its first ten possessions of the period with hot shooting a second chance points.
A pair of free throws by Austin made it 72-56 with 11 minutes left, but the Ducks pushed the margin back to 22 points with an 8-2 run and the Pilots were unable to chip away late.
Portland continues its stretch of four games in seven days with a home game against San Jose State on Friday at 6 p.m. The game will be televised on Portland's CW (KRCW-TV) and radio coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. on 910 ESPN Portland (KMTT). The Pilots will then head out on a two-game road swing to conclude non-league play at Montana State (Dec. 19) and UC Davis (Dec. 22).
