PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's soccer team officially begins the modified 2020-21 season on Wednesday when they host in-state rivals Oregon State at Merlo Field. Kickoff for the Pilots and Beavers is set for 3 p.m.
Â
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, but the two teams agreed to move it up due to inclement in the forecast.
A live video stream and live stats will be available.
Â
The Pilots enter the third year under the guidance of head coach and program alum Michelle French. 15 players return for Portland from 2019, and the team adds a group of nine newcomers. Leading the returners is preseason all-conference selection Taryn Ries. Last year Ries scored a team-high eight goals, and she also had four assists for 20 points. She's been an all-region selection for the past two years, and she's a two-time All-WCC First Team pick.
Â
Sophomore MJ Roe scored two goals and added an assist last year, while senior Ellie Walker recorded a goal and two assists.
Â
Portland features a lot of experience in goal as they return both their keepers from last season. Sophomore Jenny Wahlen made the majority of the starts, but senior Madison Zamora appeared in five games. The pair combined to register four shutouts.
Â
Oregon State began the season last Friday with a 3-0 home win over Idaho. Laura Galceran, Sydney Studer, and Brianna McReynolds scored goals for the Beavers.
Â
The Pilots cruised past Lewis & Clark 8-0 in an exhibition game on Saturday. Ries notched a hat trick during the victory, Selma Licina scored twice, and Gabi Brummett tallied a goal and two assists.
