PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots women's tennis team will be back at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Friday to face off against the Montana Grizzlies. The match is set to begin at 11 a.m. You can find live video and stats for the match at PortlandPilots.com.
The Pilots feature a young squad with six underclassmen on the roster, including four that have appeared in matches this season for Portland. Sophomore Iva Zelic has the most wins of any Pilot with a 3-1 record in the No. 1 singles spot.
Portland is 1-3 on the season after earning their first win against the Portland State Vikings on Feb. 28. The Pilots went 2-1 in their doubles matches to earn the doubles point and won three of their first four singles matches to secure the victory. Junior Angela Schuster scored the clinching point for the Pilots in the No. 6 singles match, bouncing back after a 6-1 first set loss with a 7-5 and 6-3 victory in sets two and three, respectively.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are 3-3 on the season with their most recent dual match being a victory over the Montana State Bobcats. The Grizzlies have had eight matches canceled this season due to COVID-19 protocols. They have also played one WCC opponent in the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who were slated to finish fifth this season in the conference. Montana State dropped their first match to the Zags 7-0 and their second match 6-1.
After this, the Pilots will travel to Provo, Utah to open the WCC season against the BYU Cougars on Friday, March 19. That match is set to start at 9 a.m. (PT).
