PORTLAND, Ore. – In a battle in the Bay Area, the Portland Pilots tied the San Francisco Dons 0-0. The draw moves Portland to 1-2-1 in WCC Play.
Madison Zamora put together another solid effort in the goal, allowing no goals and tallying four saves. The Pilots put in an all-around solid defensive effort, staving off a second-half push from the Dons to keep the tie.
The first half was a hard-fought battle where no side could get the edge offensively. Both teams did well to cut off passes in the final third and press whenever possible. Taryn Ries looked like she had a chance to sneak one by the Dons in the 43
rd minute, but Molly Eby made the save for the Dons. Both teams managed only seven shots combined and the match was scoreless at the half.
The second half saw a little more action, with the Dons going on the offensive and pressing the Pilots more in the final third. San Francisco had 10 shots in just the second half, but Portland stayed strong. Zamora tallied three of her four saves in the second, including a final attempt from San Francisco's Jamesen Ward to keep it scoreless and send it into extra time.
Portland took control of the action in the first overtime period. They got off three shots in the final three minutes of the first overtime, but nothing found the back of the net. The Dons put some pressure on Portland in the second overtime period, but ultimately could not score. The Pilots would hold on for the 0-0 tie.
Next up, the Pilots will be back at Merlo Field for their matchup against the Pepperdine Waves. They will face off on Friday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
