PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pilots women's soccer team is back at home this week for a West Coast Conference match-up with the No. 25-ranked Pepperdine Waves on Friday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Merlo Field.
Live stats and live video for the game will be available on PortlandPilots.com. A limited number of fans will also be allowed to attend for the first time this season. More details on fan attendance will be provided later on Thursday.
Last weekend Portland (2-2-1, 1-2-1 WCC) battled it out on the road to a scoreless draw with San Francisco. Goalkeeper Madison Zamora has produced consecutive shutouts in her two starts this season, coming up with three crucial saves near the end of regulation to force the extra time at USF, and then preserving the clean sheet after both overtime periods. Zamora has recorded seven saves in 200 total shutout minutes this year.
Taryn Ries enters the match leading the Pilots with five goals on the year, including a hat trick in the season opener against Oregon State and a brace against Pacific two weeks ago. Ries has already garnered WCC Offensive Player of the Week accolades twice this year with those performances.
Pepperdine (4-2-0, 3-0-0 WCC) comes to Portland atop WCC standings this 2021 spring season. The Waves most recently defeated Pacific 6-1 on Saturday, scoring all six goals in the first half. Trinity Watson has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for two weeks running, having also scored the most goals of any Pepperdine player with three so far.
The Pilots maintain the all-time 16-8-2 advantage on Pepperdine ahead of the contest, but it was the Waves holding off Portland by a slim 2-1 margin in last year's meeting in Malibu.
Following the game against Pepperdine, the Pilots will next head south to San Diego for another WCC installment against the Toreros on Saturday, Mar. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
The Pilots' final home game this season is set for April 10 against Saint Mary's, with that match beginning at 1 p.m.
