LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Portland Pilots rowing team collected four first place finishes as they opened the 2021 spring season Saturday morning at the Pacific Lutheran University Invite. Portland had three wins come at the varsity level, with the varsity eights recording the fastest time at 06:56.4 in the second round on American Lake.
 
"I'm pleased with our collective performance, especially after such a long layoff," Portland head coach Gulliver Scott said. "This was just the first or second collegiate race for about half our squad, and I'm proud of our crews for their poise and composure on the racecourse. We learned a lot today and we are excited for the challenges ahead."

Coxed by Sophie Osborn and stroked by Desi Petrova, Portland's varsity eight raced to a win over Seattle U and Puget Sound in the mornings first race with a time of 7:02.6. In the second round, the same boat and lineup improved to a time of 6:56.4.

Portland's second varsity eight was coxed by Emma Papenhausen and stroked by Olivia Zilavy Pailthorp and posted winning times of 7:26.7 and 7:22.4, respectively.

Portland returns to action on Saturday, April 3 as host of the Portland Invite at Vancouver Lake.
