MORAGA, Calif. – The Portland Pilots men's tennis team is headed to Moraga, Calif. for their final regular season dual match of 2021 against the Saint Mary's Gaels. The two teams will face off on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 1 p.m. Check PortlandPIlots.com for live stats and video.
The Pilots are 9-6 overall this season and 3-4 in conference play, putting them fifth in the standings. Most recently, the Pilots split a pair of WCC matches against the Pepperdine Waves and the Loyola Marymount Lions in their final home matches of the season. They lost to the Waves 5-2 but took down the Lions by the same score. The win against LMU snapped a four-match losing streak for Portland.
The Gaels, meanwhile, are 4-13 this season and 1-5 in the WCC. They head into the weekend ranked eighth in the conference. The last time the Gaels were in action was on Apr. 10, when they lost to Loyola Marymount 4-1. They will play the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday before playing the Pilots.
Since 2012, the Pilots have beaten the Gaels in six out of seven contests. Saint Mary's came out on top most recently, however, with a 4-3 win in Moraga back in 2019. Before that, the Pilots had won six straight matches against them.
With no WCC Tournament this season, the Saint Mary's match marks the final spring match of 2021 for the men's team. The outright regular-season winner for the WCC will earn an automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament.
