SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland women's soccer striker Taryn Ries was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team as selected by the league's head coaches, the WCC office announced on Friday. Ries earned her third consecutive first team honor after scoring a team-best five goals.
Senior defender Elliott Winkelmann garnered honorable mention honors along with freshman defender Camille Ashe for the Pilots. Ashe was joined on the All-WCC Freshman Team by midfielder Sophia Mattice.
Ries started nine games for Portland and her five goals ranked sixth overall in the WCC. She recorded a hat trick in the team's regular season opener against Oregon State and tallied a brace in Portland's 2-0 win against Pacific.
Winkelmann was rock solid for the Portland defense as she started all 10 matches. She was instrumental in Portland's run of five straight shutouts midway through the season and picked up an assist against Oregon State.
Ashe also started all 10 matches as a true freshman center back. The Arlington, Va. native was a key player in helping the Pilots tie for the WCC lead with five shutouts as a team.
Mattice was a dynamic midfielder player during her freshman campaign. The Folsom, Calif. native scored a goal and had an assist in nine starts for Portland.
The Pilots will look to build momentum into next season with a young team losing only two seniors from the 2020-21 roster.
