SAN MATEO, Calif. – Four Portland men's tennis players garnered All-West Coast Conference recognition as voted by the league's head coaches and announced by the WCC office on Thursday. Junior Sema Pankin earned first team singles honors, while junior Eleftherios Neos was second team in both singles and doubles for the Pilots.
Pankin finished the spring with an 11-5 overall singles record at the No. 1 position, including a 5-3 record against league competition. Notable wins came against nationally-ranked Adrian Oetzbach of Pepperdine and Sean Hill of BYU. Pankin and freshman Nikolas Tvedt teamed up to garner honorable mention doubles honors after posting an 11-3 overall record and 4-2 mark in the WCC at the No. 2 position.
Neos finished the year with an 8-8 dual singles record at the No. 2 position in the lineup and 4-4 against WCC opponents. Neos and doubles partner Issa Yoshida were recognized on the All-WCC doubles second team after posting a 9-5 dual record this spring at the No. 1 position. The duo had a seven-match win streak during the middle of the season and were 4-2 in league matches.
The Pilots finished the season with a 10-6 overall record and tied for fourth in the WCC standings at 4-4 despite playing just six players all season long. Portland will return all six players along with freshmen newcomers to the roster next year.
