PORTLAND, Ore.---Cathal Doyle from the Portland men's track and field team collected his second Top-10 all-time finish this weekend on Saturday night at the Portland Twilight Meet, claiming an individual win in his debut appearance in the 800m with a time of 1:50.63—which marks the fifth-best time in school history in the event.
Several other members from the men's program were also making their first appearances in the men's 800 meter run on Saturday, including Justin Hazell (1:54.20), Evert Silva (1:54.58), Parker Wilkerson (1:54.59), Sean Tan (1:55.18), and James Parker (1:56.20).
George Duggan crossed first for the Portland men in the 1500 meter run, registering 10th-place overall in a time of 3:49.76. Jake Knoblich followed shortly after with a new personal best of 3:55.91 for the 14th-place spot on the night.
"We had a nice meet with quite a few personal bests," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "Cathal ran great again but we were also very impressed with a lot of other guys including Justin Hazell, Evert Silva, Jake Knoblich as well as several others. A very good meet."
Over on the women's side, sprinter Ella Parker nabbed two new personal records at the meet, first in the 100 meter dash (12.87) where she came in at fifth-place individually, and then later on in the 400 meter dash (59.07) to land in third place.
Lauren Block notched a new PR in the women's 800 meter run at 2:16.51 to land in sixth-place overall.
Makenna Cowan (4:47.69), Ellee Becker (4:50.13), and Alexa Hague (4:51.17) each garnered new personal bests in the women's 1500m run.
Sofia Castiglioni earned a new personal record in the women's 5000m run with a time of 16:26.38 to take fifth-place in the race.
"Lots of great racing and PRs tonight!" said women's head coach Ian Solof. "I was especially impressed with Teresa, Sam, Vic, and Sofia. They all ran really tough, with Sofia just missing the all-time top-10 by a few seconds."
The Pilots men's and women's track and field teams will head back to the campus of Lewis & Clark next weekend on Sunday, May 16 for the last regular season competition of the spring.
