PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Portland women's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team status while having nine student-athletes earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors: Emily Soares, Annika Alcon, Lela Daszuta, Marija Elenova, Laura Okazaki, Raphaelle LeBlanc, Rimona Rouf, Angela Schuster and Jana Tanevska.
All student-athletes except for Okazaki saw the court for the Pilots this season. Soares was the only Pilot to earn West Coast Conference All-Academic First Team honors this season, doing so for the fourth time in her career. Soares also earned All-WCC Honorable Mention in doubles with partner Iva Zelic.
Elenova and Schuster were the only other Pilots besides Soares to earn both WCC All-Academic recognition and ITA Scholar-Athlete status. Both Elenova and Soares garnered WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention earlier this year.
To qualify as an ITA All-Academic Team, a tennis program must have a team GPA of 3.2 or higher with all athletes listed on the institutional eligibility form. All ITA Scholar-Athletes also must be on the institutional eligibility form and post a GPA of at 3.5 for the academic year.
