SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland Pilots women's basketball freshman Emme Shearer has been named the WCC Freshman of the Week after a career performance against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. It's her first time winning any weekly award from the WCC.
Shearer put up a career-high 17 points against the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Portland's WCC opener on Jan. 6. She also added three steals on the night while shooting 55.5% from the field. After being named to the All-WCC Freshman team last season, Shearer has started every game but one, averaging 7.2 points per game along with 2.2 steals.
The Pilots are 10-3 on the year, their best start since the 2009-10 season. They'll welcome the San Francisco Dons to the Chiles Center tomorrow for their second WCC game of the season. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with live stats and video available at PortlandPilots.com
