THIS WEEKEND: UW INVITATIONAL
• The Pilots men's and women's track and field teams are back on the road on Saturday, January 29th, for the UW Invitational in Seattle.
• Chris Anderson, Justin Hazell, John Kavulich, Zak Kirk, Jacob Klemz, Chris Morzenti, Stan Niesten, Riley Osen, and Bradley Peloquin take the track first for Portland in the men's 3000m at 10:05 a.m.
• Veerle Bakker and Laura Pellicoro are set to follow in the women's mile run at 12:30 p.m.
• Live results from the meet will be available at portlandpilots.com, and a live video stream will be provided with a RunnerSpace +PLUS subscription.
LAST MEET: PORTLAND INDOOR TWO
• Six Top-10 program finishes and four individual wins highlighted the Pilots' first home indoor meet this season.
• In the men's 600m run, Parker Wilkerson claimed an individual win with the second-best all-time finish in the race (1:21.72), Konnor Hathaway posted the third-best all-time finish in second-place with a time of 1:23.00, and Sully Nordheim and Jake Knoblich landed the fifth and sixth-place all-time finishes in the event with times of 1:23.44 and 1:25.15, respectively.
• Chris Morzenti secured first-place overall in the men's 800m run, clocking in with a time of 1:53.83 to overtake seventh in the all-time UP record books.
• Making her debut appearance in the women's 400m dash, Laura Pellicoro put up the sixth-best all-time finish with a time of 58.74.
• Chris Anderson finished the day with an individual victory in the men's mile, earning a new PR of 4:18.55, and Ellie Erikson earned an overall win in the women's 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.49.
THIS SEASON
• A combined eight Pilots from the men's and women's track and field teams collected Top-10 program finishes at the UW Preview on January 15th.
• Sophomore Parker Wilkerson notched a new school record in the men's indoor 800 meter run, clocking in with a time of 1:50.98 to overtake the previous record of 1:52.63 set by Cobie Chavez-Killinger back in 2016.
• Veerle Bakker produced yet another outstanding performance, nabbing a new personal best of 9:14.06 in the women's 3000m to land in second-place all-time in the race.
• Konnor Hathaway later claimed the fourth-best program finish in the men's 800m, Matt Strangio nabbed eighth-place all-time debuting in the men's 3000m, and Chris Morzenti locked 10th-place all-time in the men's mile.
• For the women, Laura Pellicoro ran into eighth-place all-time in the 3000m, and Teresa Perez registered the sixth-best program finish in the 600m. Sprinter Tara Fuiten posted the eighth-place all-time best in the 400m.
• Anna Pataki opened the track and field season with a historic performance in Boston back on Saturday, December 4th, setting a new national record for Hungary in the indoor 5K with a time of 15:55.65 while nabbing the third-best Portland all-time finish in the event.
LOOKING AHEAD
• The Pilots are set to host two more indoor meets with George Fox this season, occurring on Saturday, February 5th, and Sunday, February 13th at the Chiles Center.
• Portland then heads back to Seattle for a final appearance at Dempsey Indoor this winter: the UW Husky Classic on Friday, February 11th.Â
• The MPSF Championships are scheduled to take place February 18th -19th in Spokane, Wash., with the NCAA Indoor Championships to follow March 11th-12th in Birmingham, Ala.
• Pilots Tara Fuiten and George Duggan both return to their programs with all-time school records on the indoor track, Fuiten in the women's 400m dash (57.43), and Duggan in the men's mile (3:59.61), which they each set at the MPSF Championships back in 2020.
LAST SEASON
• Neither of Portland's men's or women's track and field teams competed during the 2021 indoor season after the MPSF announced the cancellation of the conference championship meet back in early January.
• The Pilots last competed on the indoor track in 2020, hosting three meets at the Chiles Center before the remainder of the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
