SAN MATEO, Calif. – For the third time this season, Portland Pilots goalkeeper Bre Norris was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week. She is the second WCC soccer player to win three times this season.
Norris earned the nod after guiding the Pilots to two shutouts, with Portland earning 2-0 wins over San Diego and No. 22 Pepperdine. The Pilots have posted nine shutouts so far this season, the most since 2013, and have allowed one goal or less in 12 straight matches for the first time since 2009. Norris had four saves against Pepperdine as well.
This season, Norris statistically has been one of the best goalkeepers in the nation. She is first the in the nation and the WCC in save percentage at .940 and is first in the conference and second nationally in goals against average at .259. If her save percentage holds, it would be the best percentage ever posted by a Pilot goalkeeper by 0.27 percentage points.
The Pilots are unbeaten through 13 matches for the first time since 2005, the year they won their second national championship and went a perfect 23-0-2. Next up, they'll travel to Provo for a showdown against the BYU Cougars. They play on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
