PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots women's soccer team just keeps winning. In front of an announced crowd of 1,770 fans the No. 15 Pilots scored a pair of second half goals to knock off No. 22 Pepperdine at Merlo Field at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex.
The Pilots got goals from freshmen Keeley Dockter and Kayla Adams in the 2-0 shutout. The victory improved Portland's record to 9-0-4 overall and 3-0-0 in West Coast Conference action. The Waves fall to 7-2-3 and 1-1-1 in league play.
How it Happened
Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead when Dockter recorded her second goal of the season in the 70th minute. She dispossessed the Waves and made a strong run through a Pepperdine defender into the right side of the box. Her sharp angled shot got past the goalkeeper and snuck inside the left post for her second strike of the season.
The Pilots increased their lead to 2-0 on a rebound goal from Adams -- her third goal of the season -- in the 79th minute. The play began when Sophia Mattice drilled a shot from 35 years out that tipped off the crossbar by the Pepperdine keeper. The ricochet went high in the air and Adams came crashing in to head it home and send the home crowd into a frenzy
