PORTLAND, Ore. – Tyler Robertson recorded his second career triple-double, Wyatt Lowell erupted for a career-high 20 points and Portland head coach Shantay Legans picked up his 100th career victory as the Pilots pulled away from Multnomah for a 100-79 victory Wednesday night at Chiles Center.
The Pilots (6-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Lowell who drilled six three-pointers and also dished out five assists.
Robertson, who tallied a 31-point, 11-rebound, 11-assist triple-double against LMU last season, finished Wednesday with 12 points, 10 rebounds and a career best 12 assists. It is just the third triple-double in program history with the third credited to current teammate Mike Meadows last season against Willamette.
Vasilije Vucinic tacked on 16 points and six rebounds off the bench for Portland and Juanse Gorosito helped out with 14 points from the bench.
The Portland offense was impressive from deep, knocking down 17 threes on 42 attempts.
How It Happened
After falling behind 22-19, Portland went on a 6-0 run with 8:18 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Robertson, to take a 25-22 lead. The Pilots then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 41-34 advantage. Portland did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 22 of its 41 points close to the basket.
Portland kept its lead intact before going on a 17-0 run, finished off by Lowell's three, to grow the lead to 74-51 with 9:45 to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Pilots still cruised the rest of the way for the 100-79 win. Portland shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting 12 shots from deep to score 36 of its 59 points.
