SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots had five players earn All-WCC honors on Wednesday when the West Coast Conference announced their annual awards. Goalkeeper Bre Norris, defender Shay Adams and forward Cally Togiai made the second team, defender/midfielder Isabella Yakel made the freshman team and midfielder Sophia Mattice earned honorable mention.
Norris was stellar between the pipes for the Pilots. She started in 18 matches for Portland, posting a .849 save percentage, 79 total saves, 10 shutouts and a .798 goals-against average. She led the WCC in both save percentage and shutouts and was ranked 26
th in 11
th respectively among all goalkeepers in Division I. She's posted the fourth-best save percentage of any Pilot in program history this season.
Adams was a crucial member of the back line for the Pilots. She played in 18 games with 17 starts, all as a center back. She helped the Pilots earn 10 shutouts on the year, which is the most for a Pilot squad since the 2010 season. She also helped them earn six shutouts in a row, which was the most since 2010.
Togiai was the top attacker for the Pilots, scoring five goals and notching four assists across 19 games (17 starts). She is the first Pilot to post at least five goals and four assists in a season since Taryn Ries in 2018. Her four game-winning goals also ranks second in the conference and 29
th in the nation.
Yakel was a mainstay in the starting XI for the Pilots as a freshman, playing in all 19 games with 17 starts. Playing in both the midfield and along the back line, she scored one goal on the season, a game-winning strike against the Saint Mary's Gaels. She also was crucial for a defense that put together 10 shutouts on the year.
Finally, Mattice earned honorable mention for the Pilots, serving as a key connector in the midfield. Mattice had the second-most assists on the team this season at three and added a game-winning goal against Nebraska as well. This is the second time she's earned All-WCC honors, making the freshman team back in the 2020-21 spring season.
The Pilots are officially in the NCAA Tournament, hosting the Arizona State Sun Devils in their first-round showdown here at Merlo Field. Kickoff is set for Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
