PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots men's soccer team had four players earn United Soccer Coaches All-West Region honors this week, with Brandon Cambridge making the first team, Delentz Pierre and Sebastian Nava making the second team and Nick Fernandez on third team.
Cambridge put together one of the best seasons in recent program history for Portland soccer, notching 31 points with 12 goals and seven assists. His goal total was the most by a Pilot since Eddie Sanchez in 2013 and his point total was the most by a Pilot since Steven Evans in 2012. Cambridge was sixth in the nation in points and seventh in total goals. He was named the WCC Offensive Player of the Year and made the first team for All-WCC as well.
Pierre was a crucial part of the defense for the Pilots, starting in every single match this year for the Pilots. With him in the lineup, Portland posted 10 shutouts, the most since 1990. Pierre also scored two goals on the year, including the game-winner against Western Michigan in the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The goal helped the Pilots advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1995.
Nava navigated the midfield for the Pilots as an attacking midfielder, bolstering the Pilots' offense. He had 18 points on the year with four goals and a team-high 10 assists. He was the first Pilot to notch at least 10 assists in a season since Rey Ortiz in 2017, and his assist total ranked ninth in the nation.
Lastly, Fernandez played a vital role for the Pilots in the midfield. Fernandez helped facilitate for the Pilots as well, adding seven assists on the year along with a goal. Fernandez was a first team All-WCC selection earlier this year as well.
Portland put together its best season since 1995 this past year, finishing 15-3-3 overall and 6-1 in WCC play, finishing second in the conference. That's their highest win total since 1995 and their highest conference finish since 2016. They made the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995 and were a top-10 team nationally in points (154), goals (51), goal differential (32), assists (52), scoring offense (2.43), points per game (7.33) and assists per game (2.48).
