EUGENE, Ore. – Iva Zelic earned a straight sets win at No. 1 singles for Portland, but the Oregon Ducks claimed the 6-1 team victory in non-conference women's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
Zelic defeated No. 102 Sophie Lescher in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 1 singles for her third ranked singles win this season. Pilot freshman Sally Pettybridge also was on the brink of a win at No. 2 singles, but dropped a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 match to Myah Petchey to close the scoring.
The Ducks (5-2) posted straight set wins at the next four singles spots in the lineup and won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles for the final score. Zelic and Neli Sunjic were leading 4-3 at No. 1 doubles when Oregon clinched the point.
Portland will make its home debut on Saturday against another Pac-12 opponent when the Colorado Buffaloes visit for a 9 a.m. start. The match will have
