SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the third time this season, Alex Fowler has been named the WCC Player of the Week. This is the second time in her career she's taken the award three times in one season.
Fowler earns the award after averaging 22 points. 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game on 60% shooting over two games. She helped lead the Pilots to an upset victory over the No. 16 BYU Cougars as well, putting up 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. It was Portland's first win over a ranked opponent since 2020 and their first home win over the Cougars since the 1997-98 season. Fowler's eight assists were also a career-high.
Fowler also made history in Portland's battle against the Loyola Marymount Lions. After scoring 21 points, Fowler moved up to ninth on the all-time scoring list for the Pilots with 1,382 career points. No player in Pilot history reached the 1,300-point threshold faster than Fowler (78 games). She has a chance to surpass Cassandra Brown for eighth all-time later today.
The Townsville, Australia native has been one of the top players in the conference this season. She's averaging an impressive 18.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game on 56.9% shooting. She is first in the conference in field-goal percentage, second in points per game and third in rebounding. No other player this year has earned WCC Player of the Week three times.
